I have worked out the installation issues of the taller gas checks somewhat. And, I was able to put 60 rounds of various cast boolits downrange through my .450B yesterday. I'm currently on a federal job, so yesterday was a holiday for a change. I wish I could say that the taller checks cured all the issues and made everything perfect. Unfortunately, reality isn't that clear cut. I can not say with confidence that taller checks solved the group size/flyers issue altogether. However, I did have some luck with a 350 grain Ranch Dog design, sized down to .452 and double checked using the taller gas checks, (double checked because this is a .458 gas check design sized down, and the tall check maker is for plain base boolits @ .454 so the taller check is installed over a standard gas check). This is the boolit on the right in the photo of the three boolits. I seated it long to get close to the lands and avoid the "bulge", and wiped the lube off the exposed bands. The oragne dot in the center of the target is 1 1/2". Five shots at 100 yards, 350 grains at about 1850 fps

Hey Cpt, I don't like anything aluminum in my barrels no matter the caliber. BUUTTT, I defer to those far more experienced than I, in this matter..
