Range Rpt 230FMJ Narrow & Wide Stabs

Postby Hoot » Thu May 16, 2013 9:25 pm

Not to pimp everyone, but since Part 1 was lost in the database flush, it will actually allow me to combine my intended Part 2 into one contiguous thread. I also have a followup to the 300 grainers (XTP-Mag vs DC/GD) and Alliant 300MP that I gathered this past weekend. It has been an extremely busy week, but I expect to have time this weekend to get them formatted and posted since here is another episode of Can you spot the upcoming range day quiz?

Stay tuned...

Actually this post is almost 3 years old. LOL. That's why I'm wondering if he ever got around to testing because I don't remember reading it.

I lived in Mn. To have range time you need a screen tent for the rain, bugs and heater for the winter. Also it contains the brass if you don't use a brass catcher. Not bad for the Texas sun. It separates you from the fair weather shooters. :P :P :P :D :D

Fortunate for me, I have my own 100 yard range so spectators aside from the goats and dogs or family are rare. But I do have a pop up canopy to keep the sun off. It does get a bit warm down here.

I'm at work, but I found the spreadsheet for the Fat stab pass. Velocities were approximately 100 fps higher than just a taper crimp, but we all know that happens. Apparently, I never got around to scanning the targets. That probably means the results were as uninspiring as previous outings with the 230 fMJ's. Not sure if I made it back out with the narrower stab project, but then I can't remember what I had for supper last week. I have a folder of un-scanned targets from the past few years. If I labeled them, I should be able to find them. I do know from experience that their groups don't tighten up until you're at or near maximum safe pressure velocities. Something like 2450fps and above. Then again, I don't remember what I had for supper last week. ;)
