How will using large rifle primers compare to small rifle primers when I load these.
Will I need to change powder charge weights?

mnhornet-
Using the large rifle primers can indeed alter pressures from the use of SR primers. You will be changing at least two important factors when you switch to the trimmed 284 cases. One factor is the use of LR primers, which will produce a hotter ignition. The other factor is a reduction in case capacity. There may or may not be problems with internal dimensions of the neck.

So, start low and work up.

See if you can track down the 450B thread on calguns.com. Problems with the use of LR primers were discussed extensively there.

Good luck.

PS I'm going to attach an image of a 450B case, just for fun, and not as a comment on this thread.

As previously bemoaned too many times by me, the rims and extraction groove in the SAAMI drawing are not what Hornady would up going with. They were correct in the 45 Pro, but I suspect the lawyers didn't want you to accidentally load a 30 RAR case into a 450b, or some such nonsense. If you have some Hornady 450b brass, measure them for yourself. They'll all be smaller than the SAAMI drawing. Like I said, too much trouble depending upon the tolerance of your 450b bolt and extractor.

Sorry Guys, but according to my Lyman 49th edition .280 is Rem, 284 is Winchester, so are we talking .280 Rem. Or are we talking .284 Winchester?

Definitely .284 Winchester, but perhaps the OP found some cases manufactured by Remington. Otherwise just a misnomer.

Way to Hoot.

As much as I like the Hornet, any of us can slip over the line (including me) and a little nudge from the Moderators can and will keep this Rare Board, "Respectful".

Thanks for all you do my friend..

Haven't been around here for a bit. Looked up this thread and saw one of my posts deleted. I'm OK with that, but for the record, my post was meant to be self deprecating humor because of the whole 284 Rem. I did not direct my comments to anyone of my people on this forum. I'm sorry if it came across wrong.

It's all cool now. Not sure what was said but I definitely can relate to "pent up". I'm planning some range time soon to "vent" something.... Even if it's only a water jug or that steel plate.
