As seen on AMMOGuide.com

.450 Bushmaster

405RCBS Cast
AA-9-17.0gr
1018fps
932 ft/lbs
20.0" Barrel
2.125 COAL

This load was developed using RCBS Cast flat-pointed, cast, soft-point, gas-check bullets.
In terms of power, the developer considers this a light load.
The velocity measurement is by chronograph.
Hornady cases and Remington Small Rifle BR primers were used in development.

COMMENTS:
Sub-sonic. No pressure signs. Rounded primers. Cycles the action. Penetrated almost full length of 400lb hog.

It was learned (during WWII) that using it to subsonics in an M1 Carbine, they couldn't reliably, silence the target, before it had an opportunity to ring the bell of warning, before it succumbed to the very slight Terminal Ballistics Effects. So, They went to 147's in an MP5 and that doesn't do much better, if any better.
Oh these were launched at between 2500 and 3100fps, I called them stingers lol. Here's the data from when I chrono'd them:

LC Nato brass, CCI 34 primers, 110gr poly tip flat base w cannelure, trim length =2.000", powder = AA5744, no crimp whatsoever bc I was afraid to w the primers,
Charge - 5-shot avg velocity - SD
32.0 - 2491 - 15
34.0 - 2651 - 7
36.0 - 2762 - 7
38.0 - 2945 - 18
40.0 - 3101 - 3

The 40.0 charge was only three shots and was meticulously weighed, bc I was scared. I also think I got one with a lil bit more than 38.0 in the 38.0 group, I didn't group for accuracy bc I don't do that when I chrono. plus this isn't meant to be a long range cartridge. but this is a little off topic.

Thanks for the load data on the subsonic 405gr'er. That makes me feel good to hear that it cycled. I'm curious what gas length he used, but I'm gonna use pistol so it doesn't much matter. If it cycled his, no matter what it is it should cycle a pistol gas system. 17.0 grains doesn't seem like it would produce a large volume of gas (altho I am not familiar with AA7 either, I know 1680 produces more gas than 5744)...tells me under gassing shouldn't be too much of an issue. I was gonna wait till after xmas to order my bbl/bolt combo...may have to be sooner than that.

good ppl on this forum. When I get my stuff built, I will begin tinkering and sharing my findings. can't wait.
