Jack-
Loading the 450B with Hornady's 230-grain .451 HAP bullet has been described a couple of times in the reloading forum.
Here are links to those threads:
Hornady advertises these bullets as being handgun match bullets that don't expand. I have not tried these myself, but they apparently do expand at 450B velocities on close-range critters.
In the second thread listed above, in his first post forum member MarkCO described these bullets as good performers. However, he modified his description a bit in his second post there, indicating that they might not perform well if they hit bone: "I think if they hit bone, they might grenade as I think they have a softer core than the XTPs or FTXs."
If you want to proceed with hunting using the HAP bullets, you might first try one or two tests of terminal performance. Try the sort-of-standard gallon water jug test described several times in this forum. Also, try shooting the bullet into really tightly packed newsprint. This severely stresses a hunting bullet, and simulates hitting bone. A comparison with an FTX bullet might be revealing. The newspaper test is relatively quick and easy to set up and do.
Should you perform these tests, please post in this forum what they showed about the HAP bullet.
Thanks.
